The Makun Central Mosque, located in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, celebrated its 30th anniversary on Saturday with a series of events that underscored its contributions to the Islamic community and its enduring legacy.
The grand celebration, held at the Ansar-Deen Primary School playground in Makun, featured the launch of a book titled Islam in Makun Sagamu, the unveiling of a community pharmacy, and the conferment of Islamic titles on notable individuals who have made significant contributions to the mosque’s growth and development.
The event drew prominent figures, including the Chief Imam of Makun Kingdom, Dr. Tajudeen Kolawole Ashaye; the Ewusi of Makun Kingdom, HRH Oba Timothy Oyesola Akinsanya; and the Asiwaju of Remo Kingdom, Asiwaju Solomon Kayode Onafowokan, who served as the Father of the Day.
Other dignitaries included the Chairman of the Day, Asiwaju Prince Shamsudeen A. Apelogun, who is also the Asiwaju Adeen of Ogun State and Baba Adeen of Remo Land; the Grand Chief Imam of Remo Land, Fadheelat Shehu Abd. Quadri Jinadu; and the guest speaker, Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun, the Chief Imam of Gbagura.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Alhaji Idris Balogun, highlighted the mosque’s journey, noting that its 25th anniversary five years ago was marked with the installation of a new Chief Imam.
This year’s milestone was themed around unity and history, with events beginning on December 19, 2024, with the annual general meeting of the Makun Muslim Community Cooperative—a non-interest cooperative society.
In his lecture, Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun emphasized the importance of community unity, reflecting on the historical harmony among Christians, Muslims, and traditional worshippers in Makun.
“When our forefathers began praying in an Islamic way, all faiths prayed together. Unity is the foundation of progress,” he remarked.
The book Islam in Makun Sagamu, reviewed by Associate Prof. Abd. Hakeem Akanni, documents the oral history and contributions of the Makun Muslim community.
Akanni noted that the book aims to preserve the legacy of the elders for future generations, ensuring that the rich history of Islam in Makun remains accessible.

Hon. Samsondeen Olalekan Bello as Oluomo Adeen of Makun Muslim Community.
Hajia Serifat Abiola Soloye as Giwa Adeen, Makun Central Mosque.
Alhaja Chief Mrs. Suweebat Adenike Dada as Alaga Adeen Obinrin of Makun Muslim Community.
Alabi Sansa as Amir of Makun Muslim Community.
Alhaji (Gp. Capt.) Tajudeen Adisa (Rtd.) as Saraki Adeen of Makun Muslim Community Ummah.
Other honorees included Alhaja Sifau Adebayo, Prince Muraino Sodeinde Gbenga, and Fadilat Sheik Yesiru Muh’Ismaeel Ayanpitan, among others.
Asiwaju Prince Shamsudeen Apelogun commended the communal spirit of the Makun Muslim community, highlighting acts of interfaith support. He recalled that a prominent Christian, the Asiwaju of Remo Land, roofed the mosque and remains an active supporter of its projects.
