The Makun Muslim Community Relief Foundation Cooperative Society has marked a significant milestone with the commissioning of its patent medicine store during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The Chief Imam of Remoland, Sheikh Quadri Junaid, presided over the commissioning ceremony, lauding the initiative for its potential to serve the community’s health and economic needs.
He emphasized the importance of such projects in fostering spiritual and physical well-being among Muslims.
“I encourage Muslims to embrace this initiative for their growth and development,” he said.
The AGM featured a series of enlightening presentations from experts in health and Islamic business practices.
Dr. Ahmed Osundina, Senior Consultant at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, delivered a keynote address on healthy living with a focus on managing and preventing piles.
Additionally, Dr. Obipeyin Abdul Wasiu from Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, and Dr. Mikail Sanusi, a Shariah Auditor, spoke on the significance of cooperative societies in Islam.
They highlighted how such initiatives align with Islamic principles, promoting mutual aid and ethical business practices.
Dr. Tajudeen Asaye, the Chief Imam of Makun Central Mosque and initiator of the cooperative society, expressed satisfaction with the foundation’s progress since its inception in 2020.
“This initiative has positively impacted the lives of Muslims in Makun and Sagamu,” he noted, urging Muslim families to join the cooperative for their collective growth.
The foundation’s chairman, Sansa Olododo, reported remarkable financial growth, revealing that the cooperative’s inflow had increased from N30 million last year to N65 million this year.
“In the past year, over N40 million in interest-free loans have been disbursed to members,” Olododo said.
The cooperative currently boasts 133 members who benefit from its various programmes, emphasizing the appeal of its Sharia-compliant, interest-free financial model.
He encouraged other Muslim communities, especially Central Mosques across Yorubaland, to adopt similar initiatives.
“People need funds to grow their businesses, and interest-free loans provide a sustainable solution,” he added.
