    Fawaz Adebisi

A man, Kabiru Adeleke, appeared before the Magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on Tuesday for allegedly using a machete to cut a carpenter, Wasiu Adebiyi, who was working on a site he(Adeleke) claimed to own in Abule Agejo, Ojere, Ogun state.

However, according to Adebiyi, he was given the job by one Mr Balogun, stressing that he has no business with the land ownership issue.

Narrating the incident, on the 6th of August,2023, the witness said that he was working, with two of his apprentices, Lanre and Gafar, on the ceiling of the building on the land when the defendant and three of his apprentices, Taiwo, Legba , and Omo mummy, came out to threaten them.

In his words, Adeleke threatened to cut his head if he didn’t vacate the site, and immediately, he collected a cutlass from one of his apprentices, Taiwo and wanted to use it on his head.

But fortunately, Adebiyi used his hand to protect himself which later led to a deep cut.

According to him, he can’t use his finger to hold nails anymore, stressing that to take jobs would be very difficult for him.

Explaining further, he said this is not his(Adeleke) first time of disturbing him whenever he goes out to work.

He cited a day when he was threatened by the defendant, while working on a client’s door, to be dealt with if he collects any job from the person he(Adeleke) doesn’t like.

Adeleke therefore asked him to leave, which he didn’t, saying he has to feed himself and family.

However, responding to this, the defendant pleaded not guilty of the charges.

The court therefore granted the defendant bail and adjourned the case to Monday, 21st of August 2023.
