The Niger police have arrested a man identified as Ahmed Aliyu from Kaduna state who was allegedly involved in the theft of two horses in Niger.

It was gathered that the suspect had made plans to transport the stolen horses to Kaduna State but was apprehended.

The Niger State Police Command PRO, Wasiu Abiodun, revealed in a statement on Thursday that one Ahmed Aliyu of Zaria in Kaduna State stole the two female horses from a farm in Niger State and concealed them inside a bush before arranging with transporters to convey them to Kaduna at a price of N100,000.

“On 4th October, at about 1430hrs, a case of missing horses from a farm at Chekungi village via Bida, Niger State, was reported at ‘A’ Div Bida. On the 3rd, at about 2110hrs, two female horses went missing from the stable where approximately five horses were kept.

“The complainant strongly suspected one Ahmed Abubakar Aliyu, male, of Zaria, Kaduna, who was on the farm and had been visiting for horse grooming and racing.

“The suspect was immediately apprehended from the farm, and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime, stating that he moved the two horses to a nearby bush from the farm. He later hired a vehicle from the park to transport the horses to Kaduna at a cost of N100,000.

“Based on the confession, the driver of the vehicle was contacted, and he dropped the horses at Mararaban-Jos, Kaduna. Another vehicle was arranged to convey the horses back to Bida,” Abiodun said.

The spokesman disclosed that the suspect is in custody, and the case is under investigation.

“He will be arraigned in court for prosecution immediately after the investigation is concluded,” he said.
