A 31-year-old man, Mohammed Sani, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly beating his nine-month pregnant wife, Hauwa Isah, to death.

The tragic incident occurred on June 3, 2025, at Banin Hashim Estate, Limawa ‘A’ area in Minna, the Niger State capital.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the couple had a history of domestic violence, which neighbours claim had escalated in recent times and may have led to Hauwa’s death.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said a distress call was received around 10:30 pm on the said date, prompting a swift response from operatives of the A Division, Minna.

“Upon arrival, the suspected lifeless body of the victim, Hauwa Isah, 24, was found on the floor with blood stains in the room,” Abiodun said.

He added that the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Minna, where she was confirmed dead. Medical personnel also confirmed that she was about nine months pregnant at the time of her death.

Abiodun further revealed that the suspect, Mohammed Sani, who resided at the same address, was arrested following allegations by neighbours pointing to a long-standing pattern of domestic abuse.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Minna for further investigation,” he said.
