The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended Misbahu Salisu, a 28-year-old man, for the alleged killing of his one-day-old daughter.

It was reported that Salisu is believed to have taken this horrifying action due to his strong preference for a male child.

In an official statement signed by Mujahid Aminudeen, Deputy Commander-General of Operations for Hisbah, Salisu was arrested on a Friday in Doka Baici, Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

Aminudeen revealed that the suspect had admitted to administering a local insect killer, Otapiapia, to the baby. Furthermore, he drugged the mother of the infant, Sa’ade, with a cup of tea containing sleeping tablets before committing this heinous act.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, citing his preference for a male child as the motive behind ending the baby’s life,” the official stated in the press release.

Salisu has now been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
