Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended a man, Akintoye Waris, for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat worth N200,000 to celebrate his daughter’s naming ceremony.
The state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, noting that Waris and his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, were taken into custody on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of the state.
According to the police, the duo had invaded a local farm on December 25, 2024, while the owner, identified simply as Mark, was away grazing cattle.Upon his return, Mark discovered one of his goats was missing.
A subsequent search in the community revealed that the suspects had been seen transporting the goat on a motorcycle toward Olodo town.
Acting on this information, detectives swiftly moved to apprehend the suspects in the early hours of January 2.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the theft, detailing how they stole and slaughtered the goat on December 27, 2024.
They further disclosed that the meat was used to prepare meals for the naming ceremony of Waris’s daughter, held in Olodo.
“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch,” Odutola stated.
She assured the public that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police reiterated their commitment to tackling crime and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
