An unidentified man has climbed a telecommunications mast on Katampe Hill in Abuja on Monday, declaring his willingness to sacrifice his life for the resolution of Nigeria’s pressing issues.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the man left a suicide note at the base of the mast, detailing his demands for the government.
The note articulated a five-point list of actions he believes are necessary to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
His primary demand is the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy, a contentious issue that has seen significant debate and public outcry in recent years.
The note read, “These are the major Nigerian problems, and I’m ready to sacrifice my life for the solution to them. I am calling for fellow Nigerians to join me on this riot.” This call to action underscores the depth of his frustration and his desire for widespread support in addressing these issues.
His demands are comprehensive and target some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges which include ; return of the Fuel Subsidy, he said the removal of the fuel subsidy has led to increased fuel prices, exacerbating economic hardship for many Nigerians.
The man demands the government reverse this decision to provide immediate financial relief to citizens.
He calls for the government to declare a state of emergency in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, and Borno states.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that these states have been plagued by terrorism and banditry, causing immense suffering and displacement.
He also called for border opening,saying,the closure of borders has led to food shortages and increased prices.
He urges the government to open borders to allow the importation of food, aiming to mitigate hunger and improve food security.
He urged the government to address Out-of-School Children, he lamented that the rising number of out-of-school children is a significant concern.
He demands immediate government intervention to ensure that every child has access to education.
Operatives from the Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency, and other Federal Capital Territory (FCT) officials promptly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and ensure the man’s safety.
This incident echoes a similar protest in September 2018, when Nurudeen Lliyasu, a 28-year-old man, climbed a telecommunications mast in Abuja to protest the poor economic conditions in the country.
Lliyasu’s protest highlighted the economic challenges facing Nigeria, but the underlying issues remain unresolved, as evidenced by this latest act of desperation.
