A 23-year-old man, Abdulazeez Abubakar, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his 20-year-old childhood friend, Sadiq Sani, to death following an argument over satchet water, popularly known as ‘pure water’.
Both men, residents of Adamawa Road in Dutsen-Kura-Hausa Area, Minna, Niger State, reportedly clashed while preparing for Maghrib prayers, according to eyewitnesses.
One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the disagreement started as a minor argument over water intended for ablution but quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
During the altercation, Abdulazeez allegedly pulled out a sharp object and stabbed Sadiq, inflicting fatal injuries. Despite efforts to save him, Sadiq reportedly died at the scene.
Confirming the incident, SP Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, said the suspect had been arrested and was under investigation.
He stated, “On 17/12/2025 at about 7:40 pm, a fight occurred at Dutsen-Kura between Abdulazeez Abubakar, 23, and Sadiq Sani, 20, both residents of Dutsen-Kura, Minna. The fight resulted in the death of Sani.
Police operatives from GRA Division responded promptly and arrested Abubakar. The suspect will soon be transferred to SCID, Minna, for further investigation.”
This shocking incident has sent ripples through the community, highlighting the dangers of minor disagreements escalating into violent acts.
