A man, Adamu Isah, has been ordered, by the Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, to receive eight strokes of the cane as punishment for the theft of 10 live chickens.
The presiding Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did this to caution Isah to abstain from criminal activities, advising him to exhibit good behaviour in the future.
Isah, who pleaded guilty to the charges of criminal trespass and theft, earnestly appealed for leniency from the court, vowing to reform his ways.
The accused faced a three-count charge, including criminal conspiracy, trespass, and theft.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor, Chidi Leo, informed the court that the incident was reported by Sani Rabiu to the Gabasawa Police Station on May 13.
Leo explained that Isah had conspired with two other individuals, who are currently at large, to steal 10 live chickens from a poultry farm situated in Kawo.
While attempting to make off with the stolen birds concealed in a bag, Isah was apprehended while his accomplices managed to escape.
The prosecutor emphasized that the defendant’s actions violated sections 308, 233, and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
