A 43-year-old Nigerian villager, Muhammadu Ali, lost his life in Bauchi State while undergoing a test of a traditional “gun medicine” or bullet-proof charm.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with such beliefs and practices in Nigeria, where charms with supposed magical properties are commonly used.
The unfortunate incident took place in Nigeria’s north-eastern Bauchi State, as Ali was being subjected to a test of the “gun medicine” by a traditional healer.
The healer, who used a locally made gun for the test, has since been apprehended by the authorities.
Two other suspects have also been arrested, while additional individuals involved in the incident are currently on the run, according to police spokesman Ahmed Wakil.
Upon hearing of the shooting, law enforcement personnel rushed to the scene and immediately transported Muhammadu Ali to the hospital.
Tragically, despite their efforts, Ali was pronounced dead on arrival.
In response to this incident, Police Superintendent Ahmed Wakil issued a stern warning to the public, cautioning against becoming unwitting participants in potentially deadly experiments involving traditional charms and unverified medicines.
He urged individuals to exercise caution and avoid being used as “cannon fodder” in such dangerous practices.
The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing, and the suspects involved will face legal consequences once the inquiry is completed, Superintendent Wakil stated.
In Nigeria, the use of charms with perceived magical properties is prevalent, and many individuals consult traditional healers for a wide range of concerns.
However, this incident serves as a grim reminder of the severe risks involved in testing so-called bullet-proof charms and medicines.
In recent years, there have been multiple reports of individuals losing their lives due to such tests, highlighting the urgent need for greater awareness and regulation of traditional practices in the country
