The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested numerous individuals, including a man with a physical disability and a Beninese national, seizing large quantities of narcotics across various states.
The NDLEA’s Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed in a statement on Sunday that the crackdown led to multiple arrests and drug interceptions over the past week.
On July 14, operatives arrested Amadu Garba, a 48-year-old man with a physical disability, at his residence in Yawuri town, Kebbi State. Garba was found in possession of six bags of cannabis weighing 67 kilograms.
In another significant bust, 60-year-old Ademola Elusakin and 34-year-old Nuhu Friday Adamu were apprehended along the Kwali-Gwagwalada-Abuja expressway with 30 kilograms of psychoactive substances.
The duo was en route from Lagos to Nasarawa State. During interrogation, Elusakin confessed that he procured the drugs from Ghana and intended to supply illegal miners in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
Babafemi further disclosed that on July 18, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport intercepted Orobi Adoubi Amen, a Beninese national.
Amen, traveling to Dubai via Accra on an Air Peace flight, was found with eight parcels of “Loud” weighing 2.10 kilogrammes concealed in female native dresses.
He admitted to being promised N600,000 for delivering the consignment in Dubai.
On July 14, a search of a container marked MSDU 5656394 at Tincan Port, Lagos, revealed 4.5 kilogrammes of a similar substance hidden inside the door panels and boot of an imported Toyota RAV 4.
Two suspects, Dada Kole and Alaba Oladewusi, were arrested in connection with this seizure.
In Yobe State, a suspect named Sale Bukar, 39, was caught with 305 blocks of cannabis weighing 152.5 kilograms on July 14. Bukar was transporting the drugs to Diffa, Niger Republic.
Similarly, Aham Regal Chinemeze, 43, was arrested on July 18 with 60 kilogrammes of cannabis along the Owerri-Onitsha expressway in Imo State.
Another suspect, Adamu Abdullahi, 24, was found with 40.5 kilograms of cannabis on July 17 along the Obajana-Kabba expressway in Kogi State, in a bus traveling from Lagos to Kano.
In Plateau State, a raid on the storehouse of a notorious drug dealer, Choji Gyang, alias Pararam, led to the recovery of 34 bags of cannabis weighing 312 kilograms.
Gyang’s manager, Kelvin Onwutalu, 43, was arrested, though Gyang remains at large. On July 19, Ifabiyi Johnson, 27, and Adeleke Musiliu, 54, were arrested in Osogbo, Osun State, with various strains of cannabis weighing 30.4 kilograms.
Further north, in Jigawa State, Tukur Yahaya, 55; Idris Haruna, 28; and Tanimu Umar, 29, were nabbed with 90 blocks of cannabis weighing 116.8 kilograms at Roni junction, Kazaure LGA, while attempting to supply customers in Kazaure, Yankwashi, and Katsina State.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Abdulkadir, 29, and Suleman Mohammed, 22, were arrested in Kaduna with 336 bottles of codeine syrup. Auwalu Hashimu, 35, was caught with 45 kilograms of cannabis along the Zaria-Kano highway.
In Ondo State, NDLEA operatives, with military support, raided a mechanic workshop opposite Benin garage, Akure.
They discovered a white Toyota Hilux van, registration number EE 328 EKY, loaded with 652 parcels of cannabis weighing 685 kilograms.
In Nasarawa State, a raid on the home of Christopher Ombugadu, 32, in Akwanga on July 14, led to the recovery of 38 kilograms of cannabis and a locally made AK-47 rifle.
