The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has urged its alumni to support the institution’s infrastructural development efforts.
The appeal was made by the Rector, Dr. Adekoyejo Jolaoso, during a familiarisation visit by the National Executive Council of the institution’s Muslim Alumni Association (MAPAMA), led by its President, Prince Taofeek Oyeniyi.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Chairman of MAPAMA’s Media and Publicity Committee, Tajudeen Balogun, on Wednesday.
Dr. Jolaoso, the first alumnus to become the institution’s rector, highlighted the need for alumni involvement in addressing critical structural and infrastructural challenges.
He stated that the institution’s management is committed to an open-door policy and investment-driven development strategies aimed at boosting the school’s capacity and relevance.
The Rector outlined various initiatives, including plans for hostel construction, the establishment of a tech hub, and the utilisation of vast lands for agricultural projects.
These initiatives, he noted, would enhance academic research, increase food production, and align the institution with its territorial profession.
Dr. Jolaoso also called on MAPAMA to explore opportunities in furniture production by bringing in investors and leveraging the association’s media expertise to rebrand and enhance the school’s visibility.
He described this as a “win-win” arrangement that could attract more investors to the institution.
Furthermore, he commended MAPAMA’s education endowment fund for indigent students and encouraged the association to promote the Federal Government’s National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) among students and parents, noting that awareness and trust in the scheme remain low.
The Rector urged MAPAMA members working in the power sector to assist in resolving the school’s electricity challenges.
He also advised the association to formalise its request for incorporating its Academic Excellence Award into the institution’s official award list, specifying the criteria for selection.
In his remarks, MAPAMA National President, Prince Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the alumni body’s readiness to partner with the school management to address pressing issues.
He commended past managements for their efforts but acknowledged the need for more robust public-private partnerships to fund critical capital projects.
“MAPAMA is ready any day, any time you call on us to be instrumental and be part of the development drive,” Oyeniyi said, adding that the association remains committed to supporting the institution’s progress.
Oyeniyi clarified that MAPAMA’s operations, including those in the diaspora, are not intended to segregate from the larger alumni body but to complement efforts in fostering the institution’s growth.
The visit was attended by key members of MAPAMA and the institution’s management, including Deputy Rector, Dr. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda; Registrar, Olubunmi Elewodalu; and Bursar, Folashade Madariola.
Dr. Jolaoso, appointed as the 10th Rector of MAPOLY on December 4, 2024, expressed optimism about the alumni’s contributions and prayed for a successful tenure as he works to reposition the institution for greater achievements.
