The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has hosted a book presentation in honour of its former Rector, Alhaji Tpl. Waheed Ayinla Kadiri, celebrating his immense contributions to town planning and academia.
A statement issued by Head, Public Relations & Protocol, Yemi Ajibola read that Kadiri, a former National President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, was described as an enigma, a trailblazer, and a mentor whose impact continues to resonate across multiple sectors.
The event, organized by the School of Environmental Studies (SENVS), drew notable figures from academia, professional associations, and public and private sectors.
It featured the launch of a 387-page book titled Towards the Attainment of Sustainable Environment, a collection of readings highlighting Kadiri’s contributions to sustainable development and the built environment.
In his opening address, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and newly appointed Rector of MAPOLY, Arc. Dr. Adekoyejo Jolaoso, described Kadiri as a living legend whose mentorship and visionary leadership have left indelible marks on the academic and professional landscape.
“Kadiri’s unique qualities are worthy of study and adoption for the development of a robust, sustainable, and people-centred built environment,” Jolaoso said.
“His scholarly contributions and enduring legacy continue to shape the future of the built industry.”

hairman of the occasion, Dr. Ayodele Aderinwale, extolled Kadiri’s virtues, emphasizing his humility, commitment to ethics, and ability to build men and institutions.
Aderinwale urged professional bodies to uphold ethics as a core value for national progress, describing Kadiri as “a man validated by his internal compass, not external accolades.”
The book reviewer, Prof. Tpl. Muyiwa Agunbiade, highlighted the publication’s relevance, noting that its 24 chapters across six thematic sections offer a vital resource for professionals, academics, and policymakers dedicated to achieving sustainable development.
In his response, Kadiri expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that the event underscored the importance of sustaining legacies in academia and professional practice.
He also voiced optimism about the future of the polytechnic and the nation, noting that the foundation for progress is becoming stronger.
“I am deeply honoured and inspired by this celebration. It reaffirms the need to maintain and build on the legacies of scholars and professionals who have shaped our society,” Kadiri remarked.
The event was graced by prominent personalities, including the Chairman of Justrite Ltd, Dr. Ayodele Aderinwale; CEO of One-Life Wonderland Amusement Park, Mr. Oluranti Oladimeji; and Prof. Tpl. Muyiwa Agunbiade.
Others included Dr. Rabiu Kusimo, MAPOLY Governing Council member; Arc. Olatokunbo Fowode, former Rector, MAPOLY; Tpl. Kayode Soile, former Deputy Rector, MAPOLY; and Tpl. Tunji Odunlami, Ogun State Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning.
The occasion not only celebrated the illustrious career of Alhaji Waheed Kadiri but also reinforced the need for sustainable practices in the built environment, a cause he has championed throughout his life.
