Kano Municipal Local Government Council authorities in Kano State have officially acknowledged the presence of a measles outbreak in certain regions within the local government area.
During a session of the Emergency Preparedness Response Committee at the local government secretariat, Alhaji Aliyu Jinjiri Kiru, the Primary Health Care Coordinator, revealed the alarming situation.
Reports of numerous measles and other infectious disease cases surfaced from various health centers in the Municipal Local Government Area, particularly in Sharada, Madatai, and Gandun Albasa.
The Coordinator stressed the need for an immediate response to contain the spread of the diseases.
Tukur Hassan, the Officer in Charge of Disease Control, reported that affected cases have been referred to Murtala Special Hospital for isolation.
Alhaji Rabiu Muhd Rabiu Gwarzo, the acting chairman of the local government and Director of Personnel Management, urged residents to promptly report to nearby health institutions for immediate intervention.
He pledged the local government’s support in collaboration with the health department to curb the disease.
Madakin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani, the District Head of Municipal, implored village and ward leaders to prioritize public health, emphasizing its critical importance in the ongoing situation.
The community is now called upon to join efforts in addressing and preventing further spread of the outbreak.
