The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday said Nigerian troops arrested 74 terrorists and their collaborators while rescuing 318 kidnap victims during counter-insurgency and internal security operations across the country in November.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed that in addition to the arrests, 25 oil thieves were apprehended in the South-South, while 69 terrorists and their families surrendered to troops in the North East.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Gen. Onoja said the military also destroyed 16 illegal oil refining sites and recovered stolen petroleum products valued at over N217 million, including 201,700 litres of crude oil and 88,177 litres of diesel.
“For the month of November, several terrorists, bandits, extremists, and other criminal elements were arrested, scores neutralised, and over 69 of them along with their family members surrendered.
Troops also rescued 318 kidnapped victims and foiled oil theft worth N217,664,618,” he said.
Gen. Onoja commended the bravery of troops on the ground and urged sustained operational efforts.
He called on the public and media to support the military in its fight against terrorism and other non-state actors and encouraged Nigerians to back veterans through the Armed Forces Remembrance Day initiative launched by the President.
He reassured Nigerians that the military is intensifying its operations amid renewed security threats to ensure the safe rescue of all remaining abducted persons.
“We are employing all necessary measures and systems to guarantee that the recently abducted students are rescued and returned to their families unharmed,” he added.
The DHQ briefing underscores the military’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across troubled regions of Nigeria.
