The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Military to eradicate terrorism and insurgency from Nigeria, pledging to sustain aggressive counter-terrorism operations until the threats to national security are banished.
In a briefing delivered by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Edward Buba, disclosed significant achievements, including the neutralisation of 216 insurgents and the arrest of 332 individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.
He added that troops intercepted 24 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 161 kidnapped hostages.
He affirmed their determination to maintain a robust stance against terrorism, emphasising the State’s monopoly on violence exercised in collaboration with relevant security and law-enforcement agencies.
“The military is going to continue to be very kinetic and strong against the terrorist in ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the country.
“ Indeed, we will banish and defeat terrorism from the nation rather than bow to it,” Maj-Gen. Buba declared.
In the South South region, troops thwarted oil theft operations estimated at N448,557,590.00, seizing 234 assorted weapons and 5,994 ammunition rounds.
The recovered arsenal comprised various firearms, explosives, ammunition, and communication equipment, alongside the confiscation of vehicles and motorcycles used by criminal elements.
Furthermore, in the Niger Delta area, troops uncovered and destroyed 97 dugout pits, 6 boats, 20 storage tanks, and other equipment used for illegal oil refining activities.
He said a substantial quantity of stolen crude oil and illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO) was also recovered.
Maj-Gen. Buba affirmed the relentless pursuit of terrorist leaders and commanders, underscoring the military’s unwavering focus on safeguarding the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.
