Troops of Operation Fansa Yamma have neutralised at least 31 bandits in two separate operations in Katsina State, dealing a significant blow to criminal elements terrorising the region.
In the first operation at Maigora village in Faskari Local Government Area, soldiers engaged the bandits in combat, eliminating 12 of them, including a notorious commander identified as Dogo. Seven motorcycles used by the criminals were also seized.
The confrontation initially led to the death of five bandits after they attacked the village. However, when the insurgents regrouped and launched a counteroffensive, military forces responded with superior firepower, killing seven more.
In a separate offensive, the air component of Operation Fansa Yamma conducted precision airstrikes on bandit hideouts in the Unguwar Goga Hillforest, Ruwan Godiya Ward, within the same LGA.
The strikes targeted two major camps belonging to notorious warlords, Alhaji Gero and Alhaji Riga, resulting in the destruction of the camps and the killing of at least 19 bandits.
Security sources disclosed that military operations in the North-West have been intensified, focusing on disrupting the activities of armed groups, dismantling their supply networks, and restoring peace in the region.
It was further gathered that ground and aerial surveillance are also being maintained to track fleeing bandits and prevent them from regrouping.
