…recovers stolen crude oil worth N83bn, arrests over 14,000 suspects nationwide
The Defence Headquarters on Thursday said no fewer than 6,260 terrorists were neutralised, and 5,365 kidnapped civilians rescued in various operations across the country in the last two years.
Brigadier General Ibrahim Abu-Mawashi, Deputy Director of Defence Media Operations, made this known during an expanded parley with media executives in Abuja.
The event was organised as part of activities marking the two-year anniversary of General Christopher Musa’s appointment as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
Abu-Mawashi said a total of 14,138 terrorists, insurgents, and violent criminals were apprehended during military operations across Nigeria between June 2023 and June 2025.
In addition to human gains, troops recovered arms, ammunition, and crude oil valued at billions of naira. In the Niger Delta region alone, troops under Operation Delta Safe recovered stolen crude oil worth N83 billion.
Breakdown of Regional Operations
In the North-East, under Operation Hadin Kai, troops killed 1,246 Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters. A total of 2,467 suspects were arrested, 1,920 civilians rescued, and 982 weapons alongside 2,153 rounds of ammunition recovered.
In the North-West, troops under Operation Fagge Yamma neutralised 1,374 bandits, including several top commanders across Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Sokoto states.
At least 2,160 suspects were arrested and 3,288 hostages freed. Recovered items included 947 weapons and 25,802 rounds of ammunition.
Troops deployed in the North-Central region killed 730 terrorists and arrested 7,153 violent extremists.
They also rescued 1,510 civilians, and recovered 1,065 weapons and 19,709 rounds of ammunition.
In the South-East, Operation UDO KA recorded the killing of 440 suspected terrorists and arrested 1,677 criminals.
Troops also freed 294 kidnapped victims and seized 683 weapons and 21,300 rounds of ammunition.
In the South-West, 80 criminals were eliminated and 1,763 arrested, while 89 kidnapped persons were rescued.
Troops recovered 143 weapons and an astounding 177,904 rounds of ammunition.
Speaking at the event, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, said the military remains resolute in its commitment to tackling insecurity across all regions.
“The military under General Musa remains people-centric, and this parley reflects our determination to ensure Nigerians are well-informed about the achievements, sacrifices, and ongoing efforts of our troops,” he said.
The event marked a critical moment in assessing the Nigerian military’s counterterrorism strategies under the current leadership, with officials promising continued transparency and dedication to national security.
