The Nigerian military has arrested two members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) over allegations of supplying arms and military uniforms to terrorists in Borno State.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, made this known during a press briefing on Thursday, revealing that the suspects—identified as Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed—were apprehended in the Liya area of Biu Local Government Area.

Kangye said the arrest followed credible intelligence that led troops to intercept a suspicious consignment being received by the suspects from a truck driver.

“Two members of the NURTW identified as Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed were arrested while receiving a waybill from a truck driver. The package contained 13 pairs of military uniforms, high-voltage batteries, and other suspicious items,” Kangye disclosed.

The defence spokesman further revealed that the military also arrested another suspected terrorist logistics supplier, 65-year-old Shaibu Bulama, at Damasak Motor Park in Yobe State on July 13, 2025.

He said arms, ammunition, and N17,150 were recovered from Bulama, along with the successful detonation of several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the region.

In a related development, Kangye disclosed that ongoing military operations in the North-East led to the surrender of 16 family members of terrorists—including four adult females and 12 children—in Bama Local Government Area on July 14.

“Preliminary investigation shows the group surrendered from Bakura Jega village, indicating progress in the sustained military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks in the region,” he added.

The military has intensified surveillance and counter-terrorism operations across the North-East, with authorities urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
