The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Kunle Salako, has mourned the passing of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, describing him as a towering figure whose influence extended beyond traditional leadership.

In a heartfelt tribute made available on Sunday, Salako noted that the revered monarch’s transition marked the end of an era for Ijebuland, the Yoruba race, and Nigeria at large.

Quoting American poet Henry Wadsworth, Salako said, “When a great man dies, for years the light he leaves behind him lies on the paths of men,” stressing that Oba Adetona’s life and legacy would continue to illuminate the lives of many.

“Oba Adetona was a Kabiyesi of Kabiyesis, a statesman whose voice was nationally respected. His love for justice, equity, and fairness in politics and society set him apart,” Salako stated.

He praised the monarch’s longevity on the throne, describing it as a blessing that brought unity, transformation, and cultural prominence to Ijebuland.

Salako prayed for the peaceful repose of the monarch’s soul, adding, “May his legacies continue to provide pride and satisfaction to his people in Ijebuland and all who loved him.”

Oba Adetona, who reigned for over six decades, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2025.
