A 42-year-old married woman, Olatunde Funke, who was earlier declared missing in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been found in a hotel room in Ugbe-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area, in circumstances that have triggered widespread reactions.
The development came after Funke reportedly left her matrimonial home without informing her family, prompting her husband to raise the alarm over her sudden disappearance. The report initially raised fears that she may have been kidnapped or harmed, leading to concern among residents and security operatives.
Ilara-Mokin and Ugbe-Akoko are about 124 kilometres apart, a journey of roughly two hours and forty minutes by road, further deepening the mystery surrounding her movement.
However, security operatives, acting on intelligence, later traced the missing woman to a hotel in Ugbe-Akoko, where she was reportedly found in the company of a 55-year-old man identified as Isa Alaba.
A source familiar with the development said the search effort initially caused panic in the community before it was established that the case was not linked to an abduction. According to the source, the woman had left home without prior notice.
“She did not inform anyone before leaving. The family only noticed her absence and raised the alarm, thinking she had been abducted,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said security operatives were mobilised on the assumption that a possible kidnapping had occurred, before the woman was eventually located.
Abayomi cautioned residents against actions that could mislead security agencies or trigger unnecessary deployment of resources, stressing the importance of communication within families to prevent similar situations.
The police said further inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and how she ended up in the hotel.
