Four years after his mysterious disappearance, a former student of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Shafiu Auwal Ibrahim, has been found alive in Kaduna State, living under the care of an Islamic cleric.
Shafiu, who was said to have vanished from the Janbulo area of Kano in 2021, left his parents and relatives in deep distress after all efforts to locate him proved futile. His sudden disappearance had forced his family to assume he was dead.
According to family sources, the discovery came after the parents decided to resume their search this year, only to learn that their son was living in a remote village in Kaduna with an Islamic scholar who claimed to have found him several years ago.
“He was found in a village in Kaduna with a cleric who said he met him a long time ago. The man explained that when he first saw Shafiu, he appeared mentally unstable and in need of help,” a relative disclosed it.
The cleric, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, reportedly took the young man in and cared for him until he regained stability.
Family members described the discovery as a miracle, expressing gratitude that their long-lost son was found alive and in good health.
“We had already given up hope. We believed he was gone forever. Finding him alive after four years is nothing short of divine intervention,” another relative said.
As of press time, the family confirmed that Shafiu has been reunited with them in Kano and is “calm, healthy, and recovering emotionally” from the ordeal.
While details surrounding his disappearance remain unclear, community members have called on security agencies to investigate the circumstances under which the student went missing and how he ended up in Kaduna.
