Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, is set to determine the fate of Bello Bodejo, the detained leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, on May 30.

Bodejo, arraigned by the federal government in March on charges related to alleged violation of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, awaits the court’s decision on his bail application.

The government accuses Bodejo of establishing an ethnic militia group, Kungiya Zaman Lafiya, to promote terrorism, a charge he denies.

During the bail hearing, Bodejo’s lawyer, Ahmed Raji, SAN, pleaded for his client’s release on various grounds, including ill health and fundamental rights.

Raji argued that Bodejo is presumed innocent until proven guilty, citing Section 36 of the Nigerian Constitution, and emphasized that the charges against him lack substance.

Supporting the bail application, Mohammed Musa, Bodejo’s brother, highlighted his brother’s patriotism and denied any involvement with the alleged militia group.

However, the federal government, represented by its lawyer, Y.A Imana, opposed the bail application, citing national security concerns.
