Two riot policemen were reportedly beaten to death while two others sustained injuries after being attacked by an enraged mob in a harrowing incident in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo state.

The violent episode unfolded following a collision involving a Toyota Hilux vehicle associated with the convoy of former Edo House of Assembly member Emmanuel Agbaje.

The vehicle struck a motorcycle, resulting in the tragic demise of the rider, a woman, and her child.

Sources report that Ikpeshi youths, incensed by the incident, besieged the office of the Edo State Security Vigilance Network.

Tragically, the mob overpowered and beat two policemen from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 19, Port Harcourt, who were taken to the scene, resulting in their untimely deaths.

Fortunately, vigilant members were able to rescue two other officers, recovering their rifles in the process.

The rescued officers are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in Edo.

Expressing condemnation for the violent actions, Tajudeen Alade, Chairman of Akoko-Edo local government council, pledged to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the assault.

This, he emphasized, is crucial to sending a strong message and deterring any future misconduct by unruly youths.

The Edo Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, underlining the severity of the situation and the commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
