No fewer than 17 motorists have been convicted for various traffic offences along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as authorities intensify enforcement to curb reckless driving and improve road safety.
The convictions were secured by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, during a mobile court sitting at Ogere axis of the busy highway.
The command’s spokesperson, Odunsi Afolabi, disclosed in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday that all the offenders were arraigned and found guilty of different traffic-related infractions.
According to him, the mobile court session, presided over by Magistrate O.S. Fadahunsi, saw the immediate conviction of the 17 offenders, with no acquittal recorded.
Afolabi explained that the exercise formed part of sustained efforts by the corps to instill discipline among motorists and ensure safer highways.
He said, “A total of 17 offenders were arraigned for various traffic violations. Following the presentation of evidence and their admission of guilt, the court convicted all of them.”
Also speaking, the Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwunmi Fasakin, said the command would sustain strict enforcement operations to reduce road crashes and ease traffic flow, particularly along the Ogere corridor.
Fasakin warned motorists against violating traffic regulations, stressing that the mobile court would continue to sanction offenders.
He urged road users to comply with traffic laws, noting that adherence remained critical to safeguarding lives and property on the nation’s highways.
The Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is a major transit route linking the South-West to other parts of the country and is often plagued by congestion and traffic violations.
