A shocking family-linked kidnapping has been uncovered in Kebbi State as operatives of the Nigeria Police have arrested a 25-year-old woman, identified as Maryam Muhammad, for allegedly masterminding the abduction of her own four-year-old son and demanding a N5 million ransom from the child’s father.
The boy, Abdulmumini Surajo, was declared missing on November 26, 2025, in Koko Local Government Area, sparking panic among residents.
Hours after the disappearance, the father received a call from an unknown female voice, warning him to pay N5,000,000 to secure the child’s release.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who confirmed the incident, said investigators immediately profiled the phone number and traced the caller to the same community.
According to him, police detectives “linked the call to the victim’s mother, Maryam Muhammad, who later confessed to planning the abduction and demanding ransom from her husband.”
Maryam, who is reportedly married and resides within the area, was arrested shortly after the call was traced.
Following her confession, a police rescue operation successfully located the child in Mahuta, Fakai Local Government Area, where he was retrieved unharmed at about 6:08 p.m. on November 29, 2025.
Residents described the incident as “disturbing and heartbreaking,” calling for psychological evaluation for the suspect and stricter punishment for family-initiated crime.
Police authorities are expected to issue a formal statement as investigations continue into what officers described as “a deeply troubling case of parental betrayal.”
