The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), B-Zone, has recorded unprecedented participation at its 115th Islamic Vacation Course (IVC), with over 10,000 delegates registering in just three days.
The programme, hosted at the proposed permanent site of Al-Ummah University along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway in Onigari, Ogun State, brought together youths from across southern Nigeria for spiritual development, leadership training, and civic engagement.
The Chief Registrar of the IVC, Mallam Abdulrazak Yusuf, disclosed that a total of 10,158 participants were registered across Edo, Delta, and Rivers states, describing the turnout as one of the highest in recent editions.
Female delegates accounted for 5,403, while male participants numbered 4,755. The breakdown included 5,822 secondary school students, 1,448 tertiary institution students, 1,022 workers, and 1,836 children.
Mallam Yusuf attributed the smooth registration process to upgrades made to the online registration platform introduced last year. While acknowledging minor technical glitches in the past, he described the system as the most effective method for managing such a large-scale programme.
He, however, urged Area Units to intensify awareness campaigns, noting that some participants still attempted physical registration due to limited knowledge of the online process.
“This year, we made considerable improvements to the registration system. While some members expressed concerns, the digital platform remains the most efficient way to handle participation at this scale,” Mallam Yusuf said.
In his welcome address, the Amir of MSSN B-Zone, Mallam Moshood Kolawole Adelaja, described the IVC as the Society’s flagship programme, highlighting its century-long legacy of fostering moral, spiritual, and personal growth.
He called on members, benefactors, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the development of Al-Ummah University, noting that hosting the programme at the site reflects MSSN’s commitment to institutions that align with its educational and moral objectives.
“This year’s IVC theme—collective responsibility in addressing moral decline, economic hardship, insecurity, and value erosion—urges participants to see themselves not just as attendees but as active contributors to societal development,” Mallam Kolawole said.
The national Amir of MSSN, Mallam Tajudeen Mustapha, who delivered the closing remarks, emphasized that the IVC is more than an annual gathering.
He described it as a continuation of a legacy of spiritual renewal, leadership grooming, and intellectual development among Muslim youths, stressing that responsibility is a value that must be internalized by all participants.
The 115th IVC, which runs from December 23 to January 1, also has additional centres in Auchi and Port Harcourt to accommodate participants from Edo, Delta, South-East, and South-South states. Lectures, discussions, and engagements during the programme focus on accountability, ethical leadership, and social reform, reinforcing MSSN’s advocacy for institutions like Al-Ummah University that contribute to human development through education.
