Abeokuta Polo Club has announced plans to host its maiden Polo Festival in partnership with MTN Nigeria, in a move expected to elevate the city’s profile as an emerging hub for elite sports, lifestyle and tourism in the South-West.
The historic festival, the first of its kind in Ogun State, is designed to blend the rich heritage of polo with contemporary social and cultural experiences, attracting polo enthusiasts, corporate executives, high-net-worth individuals and socialites from across the country.
President of the Abeokuta Polo Club, Dr. Sheriff Adams Abdulrahman, described MTN’s support as a major endorsement of the club’s vision to reposition Abeokuta on Nigeria’s elite sporting map.
According to him, the festival will go beyond competitive polo matches to deliver premium hospitality, curated cultural showcases, live music performances and high-level networking, all aimed at promoting sportsmanship, excellence and cultural pride.
Abdulrahman added that the event would also stimulate economic activities in the host community, creating opportunities for local businesses, hospitality operators and service providers, while strengthening Abeokuta’s appeal as a tourism destination.
“The Abeokuta Polo Festival is about more than sport. It is about heritage, excellence and creating a platform that connects people, culture and commerce,” he said.
With the theme, “Abeokuta Polo – Where Tradition Meets Excellence,” the festival is expected to become an annual fixture, further consolidating the city’s place on Nigeria’s polo and high-society calendar.
