The ancient city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, came alive with glamour, culture and creativity as Murphy Innovations staged its inaugural fashion show, Timeless Elegance, marking a bold entry into Nigeria’s competitive fashion and entertainment landscape.
The event, held in partnership with Ankara Festival United Kingdom, drew fashion enthusiasts, industry stakeholders and dignitaries, all treated to a rich display of style, craftsmanship and cultural expression.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Murphy Innovations, Moroof Popoola, described the showcase as the realisation of a long-held vision to build a globally recognised fashion brand rooted in Nigerian heritage.
Popoola said the journey began over two decades ago with a dream to create a brand that caters to individuals with refined fashion tastes while projecting Nigerian creativity to the world.
“About 25 years ago, I envisioned a brand that would not only serve our immediate community but also extend across Nigeria and the diaspora. Today, that vision has come to life,” he said.
He explained that the brand had since evolved into a multifaceted enterprise, including the Murphy Innovations Fashion and Training Institute, which has trained hundreds of young creatives who are now making their mark in the fashion industry.
The highlight of the evening was the runway showcase, where models strutted in an array of designs featuring premium tailoring, luxurious fabrics and intricate detailing, reflecting the show’s theme of timeless elegance.
The infusion of traditional Ankara elements with contemporary styles underscored the brand’s commitment to blending culture with modern fashion, earning applause from guests.
Popoola emphasised that beyond aesthetics, the initiative was designed as a platform for youth empowerment and skills development, particularly in Ogun State and across Nigeria.
He also stressed the importance of partnerships in advancing the fashion industry, noting that collaboration with Ankara Festival UK had significantly enriched the quality and reach of the event.
“We are building more than a fashion brand; we are creating a movement that empowers young people and showcases the excellence Nigeria is known for. We welcome more collaborations from individuals, corporate organisations and government institutions,” he added.
Chairman of the occasion and Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, commended Popoola for bringing a high-calibre fashion event to Abeokuta, describing it as a major boost for the city’s creative industry.
Agboke noted that the initiative would help curb the trend of residents travelling to Lagos for premium fashion services, while also encouraging local talent development.
“You have demonstrated that excellence can thrive here in Abeokuta. Maintain professionalism and ensure integrity remains at the core of your business,” he advised.
In a heartfelt vote of thanks, Rizqah Popoola and Haliah Popoola, daughters of the founder, described the event as a remarkable celebration of creativity, culture and emerging talent.
They expressed gratitude to key supporters and partners such as Otunba Taofeek Shokaya, Olusegun Emmanuel of Houseofemmanuels, Dapo Oguntola, Barrister Mutiu Agboke and Alhaji Kabiru Fatgbems for their contributions to the success of the maiden edition.
The organisers affirmed that the Murphy Innovations Fashion Show would become an annual event, promising bigger and more impactful editions aimed at expanding opportunities for young designers and creatives.
With its successful debut, Timeless Elegance has not only positioned Murphy Innovations as a rising force in Nigeria’s fashion scene but has also reinforced Abeokuta’s growing reputation as a hub for creative expression and cultural innovation.
