The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), the official umbrella body for all Muslims in the South West, has strongly condemned the alleged plot to depose the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.

MUSWEN described Sultan Abubakar, who serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the national leader of all Muslims in Nigeria, as a  pivotal figure in fostering unity across the nation.

The group said Sultan Abubakar is revered by Yoruba Muslims, who hold him in the highest esteem for his unparalleled efforts in bridging cultural divides among Nigeria’s 120 million Muslims.

The statement signed by President, MU S W E N, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, states that Sultan’s leadership extends beyond the Muslim community, earning him the respect and friendship of Christian leaders, including those from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

The statement read further that the  unprecedented rapport has been instrumental in reducing inter-religious conflicts in Nigeria by over 90% since his ascension to the throne.

According to MUSWEN, under Sultan Abubakar’s guidance, Nigeria has witnessed significant strides towards peaceful coexistence among its diverse population.

“His efforts have solidified his reputation as a proponent of harmony and peace, not just among Muslims, but across all tribes and faiths in Nigeria.

“ The Sultan’s contributions to national unity are invaluable, making any talk of his removal deeply concerning.”

MUSWEN has categorically dismissed the allegations of a plot to remove Sultan Abubakar as mere rumours.

The President of MUSWEN, emphasised that any differences between the Sokoto State Government and the Sultan’s office should be resolved amicably.

He reiterated the unwavering support of Yoruba Muslims for Sultan Abubakar, describing him as an indispensable leader whose efforts have been crucial in uniting Nigerians.

He added that in  light of these allegations, MUSWEN calls for a peaceful resolution of any misunderstandings that may exist.

The President said the organisation stands firmly behind Sultan Abubakar, affirming their absolute reverence and support for his leadership.
