‘My mother is from France’ – Olise on why he snubbed Nigeria, England, Algeria

Bayern Munich winger, Michael Olise, has explained his decision to snub Nigeria, England and Algeria to play for France.

Olise was born in London to a Franco-Algerian mother and Nigerian father.

He is eligible to represent Nigeria, France, Algeria and England at the international stage.

However, the former Crystal Palace star is now set to play a cap-tying game for France on Friday when they take on Italy in a UEFA Nations League clash at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

Olise had received his first call-up to France’s senior national team.

Speaking at a press conference held at Clairefontaine ahead of France’s clash with Italy, Olise was questioned about why he chose to represent France instead of Nigeria, England or Algeria.

He said (via RMC Sport): “My mother is from France. When I was little, I came here.

“I had this connection with France. I’m proud to be here.”
