A Nigeria Air Force (NAF) MI-35P helicopter crash-landed and exploded at the NAF Base in Port Harcourt, creating a tense situation that unfolded at precisely 7:45 a.m. on Friday.

NAF spokesman, Edward Gabkwet, disclosed in a statement that the helicopter, bearing the identifier NAF MI-35P, was involved in the mishap shortly after taking off for a mission targeting economic saboteurs in Rivers State.

Miraculously, all occupants survived the crash, albeit with reported “minor injuries.”

Currently, these survivors are receiving prompt medical attention at the NAF Medical Centre in Port Harcourt, underlining the rapid response and commitment to their welfare.

Edward Gabkwet emphasized the survival of everyone on board, offering reassurance amid the alarming circumstances.

“The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is en route to Port Harcourt to personally assess the situation, ensure the wellbeing of the crew, and provide further directives,” the official statement read.

The unfolding events shed light on the challenges faced by military personnel engaged in high-stakes operations, urging a renewed focus on safety protocols and rigorous investigations into the cause of the crash.
