The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has issued a stern warning to intending Nigerian pilgrims, cautioning them against falling victim to scammers as they prepare for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage.

In a statement released by Fatima  Usara, the assistant director of public affairs at NAHCON, the commission emphasised the importance of vigilance and urged pilgrims to be wary of any individual or group soliciting additional administrative charges beyond the officially stated 2024 hajj fare.

“The Commission has not requested pilgrims to pay any additional administrative charges beyond the stated amount, and any individual or entity making such requests on our behalf is in violation of NAHCON’s regulatory role and responsibility,” the statement read.

Pilgrims were urged to report any such instances of solicitation for extra charges, providing details such as the name of the person making the request, location, and evidence of the request or payment.

She said NAHCON has  provided a dedicated WhatsApp number, 09071800007, for pilgrims to submit their reports.

The commission reiterated the importance of adhering strictly to official announcements from NAHCON, which are regularly published on their official website.

With the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage approaching, NAHCON urged intending pilgrims to remain vigilant and protect themselves from potential scams.
