The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced a significant reduction in the 2026 Hajj fares for intending pilgrims across the country, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu to make the spiritual journey more affordable for Nigerian Muslims.
President Tinubu had in October, through his Deputy Chief of Staff, Senator Ibrahim Hadeija, instructed the commission to review downward the fares it earlier announced for next year’s pilgrimage.
In compliance, NAHCON on Monday released a new fare schedule, showing substantial cuts for pilgrims from all zones.
According to the revised rates, intending pilgrims from Borno and Adamawa zones will now pay ₦7,579,020.96, down from ₦8,327,125.59 — a decrease of ₦748,104.63.
Those from the Northern Zone will pay ₦7,696,769.76, representing a reduction of ₦760,915.83 from the previous ₦8,457,685.59, while pilgrims from the Southern Zone will now pay ₦7,991,141.76, down by ₦792,943.83 from the ₦8,784,085.59 charged in 2025.
The commission said the downward review aims to ease the financial burden on prospective pilgrims and encourage broader participation in the 2026 exercise.
NAHCON also fixed December 5, 2025, as the new deadline for full payment by all intending pilgrims.
“Intending pilgrims are advised to complete their payments on or before the stated deadline to ensure smooth processing and participation in the 2026 Hajj,” the commission stated.
It further urged applicants and state pilgrims’ welfare boards to visit its official website — www.nahcon.gov.ng — for detailed information and updates on the exercise.
The 2026 Hajj fare review marks one of the early policy responses by NAHCON under Tinubu’s administration aimed at improving accessibility to the holy pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims amid rising economic challenges.
