Controversial Nigerian rapper, Naira Marley, also known as Azeez Fashola, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa.

In a statement released via the NDLEA’s official Twitter account, Naira Marley, founder of Marlian Music records, expressed his commitment to the fight against drug abuse.

It has been reported that photos shared by the agency on Twitter depict Naira Marley alongside Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) and a diverse group of individuals at the National Headquarters.

Notably, the music star’s visit sparked debates on social media due to his association with drug use and ongoing case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged fraud.

Responses on Twitter expressed varying opinions on the situation.

The tweet reads, “Photo caption 1: Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), with music star Naira Marley when the artiste paid a visit to the National Headquarters of the Agency in Abuja to declare support for the War Against Drug Abuse on Thursday, 17th August 2023.”

The music star’s visit stirred controversy on social media, particularly because he is known as a chronic smoker and also has a case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged fraud.

Reacting, @OlorogunErnest wrote: “Nigeria is indeed a very confusing & complicated nation. How can Naira Marley, who consistently promotes the use of drugs and other immoral substances, be visiting NDLEA to pledge support for the fight against the use of drugs? Perhaps NDLEA can just go ahead and make him an ambassador. Strange & crazy nation!”

@Views09 added: “Same as Hakimi advocating for women’s rights and gender equality. We’re familiar with this game; the track record proves otherwise.”
