In a surprising twist of fate, an Ibadan Oba narrowly escaped tragedy following an explosion that shook the Oyo state capital last Tuesday.
What initially seemed like a trivial disagreement between the Oba and his wife unfolded into a life-saving moment.
According to Mr. Akerele Alabi Ogun, a relative of the Oba, trouble began when the wife had prepared a sumptuous rice dinner in anticipation of her husband’s return.
However, upon his arrival, the Oba expressed a preference for beans, sparking a prolonged argument between the couple.
Despite the wife’s pleas to settle for the prepared rice due to the late hour, the Oba insisted on beans.
As tensions rose, the beans was being cooked, and the Oba, fatigued, began dozing off. The wife, determined to complete the meal, engaged him in conversation to keep him awake.
When the Oba finally decided to retire to bed without eating, the wife staunchly objected.
As their disagreement intensified, a deafening blast rocked the surroundings, forcing them apart. Miraculously, they both managed to escape the explosion.
Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that a large piece of concrete had fallen on the bed the Oba intended to sleep on.
The realization struck that the wife’s insistence had inadvertently saved the Oba’s life.
The identity of the Oba remains undisclosed, with Mr. Ogun explaining, “I was not granted permission to share the story, but I think no harm has been done since I didn’t mention the Oba’s name or his local government.”
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the Oba is now preparing for a special thanksgiving to express gratitude for the providential escape.
