Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has raised the alarm that her official phone number has been cloned and is being used to impersonate her in attempts to intimidate prominent Nigerians.
In a petition dated June 4, 2025, and addressed to the Director of the National Cybercrime Centre, Nigeria Police Force, Abuja, the senator, through her legal representatives, M. J. Numa and Partners, alleged that unidentified individuals are using her identity to place unsolicited calls and send messages to notable Nigerians.
She said the act suggests a “coordinated attempt to compromise” her identity and mislead high-profile individuals using her name and reputation.
The petition, titled “Disclaimer Regarding Illegal Cloning and Unauthorised Use of Our Client’s (Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s) Phone Number,” called for a full-scale investigation and forensic analysis of all activities linked to the affected line.
“The development is not only alarming but also constitutes a gross violation of her privacy and a potential breach of national security,” the petition, signed by Barr. Michael Jonathan Numa, read in part.
Some of the individuals allegedly contacted by the impersonators include former presidential adviser Senator Ben Obi, former Edo State governor and ex-APC chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Air Peace CEO Chief Allen Onyema, Hon. Emmanuel Ukon, and Channels Television journalist Seun Okinbaloye.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also cited a call she received from the Area Commander of the Maitama District, who claimed he was returning her call.
Similarly, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe, reportedly received a call appearing to originate from the senator.
She has disclaimed all such communications, urging the public to treat any unverified messages or calls purportedly from her with caution.
The senator further expressed her willingness to submit her devices for expert analysis to aid the investigation.
