The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended two elderly individuals in Maiduguri and Gamboru-Ngala areas of Borno State for their involvement in drug trafficking.
The suspects were identified as 70-year-old Mallam Mai Gemu Adam and 65-year-old Yamama Musa.
NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, announced the arrests on Sunday, revealing that the grandfathers were taken into custody along with 24-year-old Abubakar Ya’u and 28-year-old Babagana Abubakar Ali on Saturday.
The joint operation resulted in the recovery of 32,000 ampoules of tramadol injection from the suspects.
“In Borno state, NDLEA operatives arrested Mallam Mai Gemu Adam, 70, and Yamama Musa, 65, for drug trafficking on Saturday, 9th March.
Accompanying them were Abubakar Ya’u, 24, and Babagana Abubakar Ali, 28, in Maiduguri and Gamboru-Ngala respectively.
A total of 32,000 ampoules of tramadol injection were seized from the group,” stated Babafemi.
Additionally, the NDLEA reported the apprehension of eight suspects in Abuja, where officers raided the notorious Karu abattoir drug joint on Friday, 8th March.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 51.3kg of cannabis.
The individuals arrested in Abuja were identified as Buhari Muhammadu, Jamilu Muhammed, Abubakar Wappa, Yahaya Tasiu, Ezekiel Mulanda, Abba Haruna, Habibu Umar, and Shamsu Lawali.
Further drug-related arrests were made in Plateau state, where Pam Thomas, 45, and Stephen Nyam, 38, were apprehended on Monday, 4th March, with 611.428kg of cannabis in Zawan, Jos South.
In Kogi state, NDLEA officers intercepted a commercial J5 bus traveling from Onitsha, Anambra state, to Zaria, Kaduna state on Wednesday, 6th March.
A suspect, Yusuf Abdullahi, 40, was found in possession of 8,580 pills of tramadol and exol-5.
The NDLEA’s operations extended to Enugu, where operatives raided locked-up shops at the new market in the metropolitan area on Tuesday, 5th March.
The operation yielded 371.42kg of cannabis and 9.49 grams of methamphetamine.
The agency continues its efforts to curb drug trafficking across the country.
