The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 70-year-old man, Adamu Mohammed, in Mbulamel, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs.
This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking and related offenses across Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi detailed the agency’s recent operations.
One significant bust involved the interception of China and UK-bound consignments concealed in steel bolts and shea butter in Lagos.
The NDLEA’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigations (DOGI), attached to a courier firm, discovered two parcels containing cocaine and amphetamine on Wednesday.
The cocaine, weighing 587 grams, was hidden in eight steel bolt screws destined for China, while the amphetamine was packed in vape pens and concealed in shea butter headed to the United Kingdom.
In another operation, NDLEA officers thwarted an attempt by Emeka Nwadiaro, also known as Mega, to export 3.6 kg of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed in 36 water flasks to Dubai, UAE.
This occurred at a logistics company in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday. A follow-up operation led to Nwadiaro’s arrest in Onitsha, Anambra State, on the same day.
Further highlighting the NDLEA’s extensive efforts, Babafemi reported the interception of a Mercedes Benz bus loaded with 840 kg of cannabis in Lagos and the arrest of the driver, Samuel Henry, in Ojo Local Government Area.
In Benue State, another suspect, Lawal Adam, was apprehended along Otukpo Road, Aliade, with 75,000 opioid pills, including tramadol and exol-5, on Friday.
In Imo State, two suspects, Olisa Etisi, 32, and Jonathan Umeh, 25, were arrested along Owerri-Onitsha Road. NDLEA operatives discovered a gas cylinder used to conceal six blocks of Loud cannabis weighing 3.85 kg.
On the same day in Kaduna State, 27-year-old Gaddafi Sani was caught with 30 kilograms of cannabis, 2 kg of cannabis, and 33.55 grams of diazepam along the Abuja-Kaduna Road.
In Yobe State, NDLEA operatives recovered 91.1 kg of opioids and 13 kg of cannabis from hidden compartments in a petrol tanker along Potiskum-Damaturu Road. The tanker’s driver, Ismaila Ali, was arrested.
Additionally, the NDLEA intercepted a Toyota Hummer bus carrying 2,025 pieces of improvised explosive device (IED) materials along Agaie-Lapai Road in Niger State.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with this seizure. Abdulrauf Shitu Adeyemi, 46, and Asmiyu Rahim, 45, were apprehended on the spot, while follow-up operations led to the arrests of Husaini Abdullahi, 25, in Sokoto main market, and Nazifi Abdullahi, 37, at Naibawa Motor Park, Kano, on May 17.
NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) has directed that the suspects and materials be transferred to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
In Katsina State, 42-year-old Muhammad Lawal was arrested at Central Market Motor Park with 1,000 ampoules of pentazocine injection.
In Edo State, a raid on Obola community, Owan West Local Government Area, led to the recovery of 105 kg of cannabis and the arrest of Gloria Oris.
In Kwara State, two suspects, Abdulganiyu Karaman, 55, and Sunday Abel, 37, were arrested with 83 kg of cannabis and tramadol in Boriya, Baruten LGA, and Offa, respectively.
