Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made significant progress in dismantling an organized criminal network responsible for the recent smuggling of two containers containing illicit drugs, arms, and ammunition from Durban, South Africa, to the Tincan seaport in Lagos State.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed on Sunday that key members of the syndicate have already been apprehended.
Among those in custody are Falowo Samuel Kayode, a clearing and notify party for the two containers; Anjorin Idowu, a dock worker; and Uzairu Ahmed Iguda, who oversees the Five Star terminal at the port.
However, a key player, Mohammed Muktar Sule, alias Organiser, who is also a dock worker, remains at large.
The agency’s intelligence prompted a 100 percent joint examination of containers MSCU 4581770 and TRHU 7968071 on January 18 and 19, 2024.
During this operation, 56.39kg of cocaine, 795kg of Colorado (a synthetic strong strain of cannabis), and other illegal items were seized.
Following a tasking order by NDLEA’s Chairman/CEO, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), investigations unveiled additional illicit substances.
Bags containing 192.7kg of Colorado, a pistol, and rounds of ammunition were discovered in an empty container at the Five Star terminal, concealed before the joint examination.
As a result, Uzairu Ahmed Iguda and Anjorin Idowu, both implicated in the conspiracy, have been arrested. The third suspect, Mohammed Muktar Sule, remains on the run.
It has been revealed that the three suspects colluded with the clearing and notify party, Falowo Samuel Kayode, to transfer the 192.7kg of Colorado, along with the pistol and ammunition, from the container to an empty one at the terminal.
NDLEA continues its investigation to unravel the full extent of this organized criminal operation.
