The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed two cannabis farms in the state.

The state NDLEA’s Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in Benin City while briefing journalists on the command’s achievements in the months of May.

He said the two farms, measuring 0.782961 hectares, were discovered in the Uzebba and Ohosu forests, spread across Owan West and Ovia South East Local Government Areas of the state.

He said, “The first cannabis farm, measuring 0.265874 hectares was destroyed in the Uzebba forest while 0.517087 hectares was destroyed at the Ohosu forest.’’ He said the destruction of the farms was aimed at cutting off the root of supply, saying if there were no harvests, traffickers would not be able to get the products.

Mitchell noted that the negative impact of drug trafficking on local economies, investment opportunities, and the escalating costs to law enforcement and healthcare systems will be drastically minimised through the adoption of proactive drug control strategies.

According to him, the agency has taken the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign to young adults and adolescents in schools, churches, and mosques.
