Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have seized 2.4 million tramadol pills in Gombe State.
The NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, made the announcement in Abuja on Sunday.
According to Babafemi, the operation, carried out on September 14, led to the arrest of three suspects on the Bauchi-Gombe road. They were apprehended while traveling in a truck marked GME 552 ZU. Babafemi added that the drugs were concealed within bags of salt.
In a separate operation in Kaduna State on September 10, a suspect identified as Idris Adamu, 23, was arrested in Kachia town with 41.5 kilograms of cannabis sativa. The next day, two more suspects, Godiya Jikuk, 36, and Yusuf Umaru, 65, were arrested in Isinbode-Ekiti with 73.6 kilograms of cannabis.
He added that further operations in Bauchi State resulted in the seizure of 208,920 pills of tramadol and diazepam from a suspect named Chinedu Asadu, 35, on September 13.
Additionally, NDLEA operatives intercepted 104 kilograms of cannabis from two suspects on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on September 10.
In another significant development, Babafemi revealed that 350,000 bottles of Codeine-based syrup were discovered by NDLEA officers in two containers shipped from India.
He stated that the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies at the Tincan Port in Lagos on September 10.
Babafemi added that the containers were flagged for a thorough examination, leading to the discovery.
