In a significant operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully confiscated illicit drugs valued at N4.8 billion from a concealed warehouse situated within the bustling International Trade Fair Complex in Alaba, Ojo area of Lagos State.

The recovery, which took place on Saturday, was carried out at the premises owned by a wanted billionaire drug baron.

The haul includes 1.4 million pills of tramadol 225mg weighing 826kg, 3.2 million pills of codeine with a total weight of 3,360kg, and 2,841 cartons of codeine syrup, comprising 284,100 bottles and 28,410 liters of the psychoactive substance.

These items hold a collective street value of N4.8 billion.

The disclosure was made in an official statement issued on Sunday, August 20, by NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

During the meticulously executed operation that spanned several hours, NDLEA operatives apprehended a suspect named Paulinus Ojukwu. Ojukwu holds the position of Chief Security Officer to the wanted drug baron, who masquerades as an automobile spare parts dealer.

Femi Babafemi emphasized that this latest triumph in dismantling a drug warehouse comes shortly after the arrest of Faith Ebele Nwankwo, a drug baroness, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

Nwankwo was apprehended with a stash of 2.7 million pills of tramaking, a brand of tramadol ranging from 225mg to 250mg.

The arrest took place at her residence, House 6, C close, 3rd Avenue in the Festac area of Lagos.

Additionally, a warehouse located at Plot 3432 Sola Akinsola Street, Divine Estate, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, was also linked to her illicit activities.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, expressed his satisfaction with the professionalism displayed by the anti-narcotics officers.

He urged them to ensure the capture of the fugitive drug baron, who remains at large, so that appropriate legal actions can be taken against him.

Marwa called upon his fellow officers nationwide to intensify their efforts in curbing the activities of drug cartels.
