The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the seizure of more than 7.6 million tramadol tablets and 76,273.4 kilograms of cannabis across multiple states in a series of coordinated operations.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, revealed that the drugs, including popular cannabis strains such as Colorado, Loud, and Skunks, were recovered from various locations, with several suspected traffickers arrested in connection with the haul.
According to Babafemi, the seizures included 3,874,000 tramadol tablets of 100mg and 225mg strength, 252.2 litres of codeine syrup, and other controlled substances.
A major haul was recovered from a warehouse at Oko Market, Asaba, Delta State, on Saturday.
In a separate operation on December 3, NDLEA operatives intercepted a vehicle at Orogwe along the Onitsha-Owerri Road, Imo State, containing 1.2 million 225mg tramadol tablets en route from Aba, Abia State, to Onitsha, Anambra State.
In Adamawa State, officers seized 1,577,112 capsules of tramadol on December 1 from a Toyota Hiace bus, registration MGU 554 XB, traveling from Jos, Plateau State, to Mubi.
Other substances recovered included Exol-5 tablets concealed in jumbo bags mixed with rubber sandals and slippers.
Two suspects were arrested in that case. Another 27-year-old suspect was nabbed along Zaria-Kano Road, Kano State, with 197,000 Exol-5 tablets.
NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, commended officers across Delta, Adamawa, Imo, Ondo, Lagos, and Kano States for their efforts, noting that the successes were part of the agency’s balanced strategy targeting both drug supply and demand.
“The operational successes of our officers across the country demonstrate our commitment to tackling drug trafficking while protecting the public from the menace of substance abuse,” Marwa said.
