The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested socialite and club owner Mike Eze-Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, alongside former Big Brother Naija housemate Tuoyo Ideh and over 100 others during a midnight raid on a “drug party” at a Lagos nightclub.
The operation, which took place at Proxy Night Club, followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence reports suggesting that the venue was being used for large-scale consumption and distribution of illicit substances.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, operatives infiltrated the event on Saturday night and executed the raid at 3 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, after securing sufficient evidence.
“The raid followed credible intelligence about the planned drug party. NDLEA operatives embedded in the gathering between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. disrupted the event in line with Standard Operating Procedures,” Babafemi said in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said cartons of illicit substances, including loud (a potent strain of cannabis) and laughing gas (nitrous oxide), were recovered from the club’s store and seized from several guests.
The Lagos raid came amid a series of high-profile operations across the country as the agency intensified its war against narcotics trafficking and abuse.
In Kwara State, NDLEA operatives intercepted 21,950 capsules of tramadol (250mg) concealed inside a 100-litre water heater from a suspect, Umar Abubakar, 40, at Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area.
Similarly, in Taraba, two suspects — Auwal Musa, 26, and Salihu Bala, 22 — were caught transporting 450,000 pills of tramadol and exol-5 in a truck loaded with building materials from Onitsha to Mubi, Adamawa State.
In Kogi State, officers on patrol along the Okene–Lokoja Highway seized 162.2kg of skunk, while their counterparts in Nasarawa recovered 128kg of the same psychoactive substance from Abubakar Muhammad, 55, at Keffi.
A major dealer in high-grade cannabis identified as Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, a mother of two, was also arrested in Lekki, Lagos, where 500 grams of “Canadian Loud” and “California Loud” were recovered.
In Ikorodu, another suspect, Ogunyabo Adenigbigbe, was apprehended at Solomade Estate with 275 litres of ‘skuchies’, a cocktail of blackcurrant drink mixed with cannabis and opioids.
The agency also made arrests of elderly suspects in the Southeast. A 75-year-old grandfather, Echendu Onuoka, was caught with 4.7kg of skunk, while a 60-year-old woman, Aukana John, was found with 225 grams of the same substance in Abia State.
In Zamfara, NDLEA operatives intercepted Abubakar Ibrahim, 30, with an AK-47 rifle and over 1,700 rounds of ammunition en route to the Bagega Forest in Anka Local Government Area. The suspect and the weapons have since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
Reacting to the spate of arrests, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended the operatives for their professionalism and diligence.
He urged the agency’s personnel to sustain the momentum through a “balanced approach” combining enforcement, intelligence, and public enlightenment.
“These arrests and seizures show the agency’s renewed commitment to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs and dismantle criminal networks,” Marwa said.
The NDLEA boss reiterated that no individual, regardless of social status, would be spared in the agency’s ongoing war against drugs.
