In a spirited New Year address to members of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Ogun State branch, Dr. Abayomi Onanuga (FSTAN) outlined a bold vision for the Association in 2025.
With the theme “Language and STEM Education,” the forthcoming 65th national conference, scheduled for August 18–21, 2025, at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), promises to elevate science education in Nigeria to international standards.
Reviving a Legacy After 30 Years
Dr. Onanuga highlighted the significance of Ogun State hosting the national conference for the first time in three decades.
He stressed the need for a departure from outdated practices, urging members to embrace innovation, creativity, and soft skills to deliver world-class science education.
“This year is going to be a year of setting standards because of the hosting of the 65th edition of the national conference.
This conference aims to provide a platform for science educators to share best practices, explore innovative teaching methods, and discuss cutting-edge scientific research,” he stated.
Conference Objectives and Outcomes
The conference has been designed with ambitious objectives, including improving science education, promoting STEM literacy, fostering collaboration, and keeping educators updated on scientific advancements.
Expected outcomes include enhanced teaching practices, increased networking opportunities, and improved student learning through innovative methods. Participants will also be inspired to continue delivering high-quality science education.
The conference theme underscores the integration of language in STEM education, with a robust lineup of keynote and plenary speakers, modular workshops, and rigorously reviewed research presentations.

On Student Engagement, Science quizzes, project exhibitions, and an introduction to space science education.
On Technology-Driven Activities, Collaboration with the Ogun State government and private-sector partners to ensure an innovative approach.
Dr. Onanuga urged members to commence preparations for the conference immediately, stressing the importance of individual and collective mobilization strategies to meet the high expectations.
Onanuga said registration costs N50,000 per participant, with a deadline set for July 25, 2025.
He added that the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), comprising experienced educators and stakeholders, has been inaugurated to oversee planning and ensure the conference meets international standards.
Dr. Onanuga also appealed to the Ogun State government, corporate bodies, and well-meaning individuals to support the event financially.
