A newlywed member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ibrahim Haruna, has been killed in a reprisal attack in Jos, Plateau State, just a day before he was due to complete his national service, PLATFORM TIMES learnt on Tuesday .
The attack, which occurred along the Jos–Bauchi highway, followed an earlier deadly assault on the Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where about 30 persons were reportedly killed on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
In the aftermath of the initial incident, irate residents were said to have launched retaliatory attacks on unsuspecting travellers and passersby along the highway, resulting in the deaths of at least two persons, including the corps member.
Sources said Haruna, who had recently gotten married, was preparing for his passing-out parade scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, when he was caught in the violence.
The fresh killings have heightened tension across Jos North and surrounding areas, with residents expressing fear of further escalation as security agencies intensify efforts to restore order.
Confirming the development, authorities said the situation had become volatile, prompting the Plateau State Government to impose a 48-hour curfew to curb further reprisal attacks and prevent a breakdown of law and order.
Security operatives have since been deployed to strategic locations across the state, while residents have been urged to remain calm and avoid actions that could inflame the already fragile situation.
The repeated cycle of violence has once again drawn attention to the persistent security challenges in Plateau State, where communal clashes and retaliatory attacks have continued to claim lives and disrupt normal activities.
As of press time, it was unclear if arrests had been made in connection with the latest killings, while investigations into both the initial attack and the reprisal incidents were said to be ongoing.
