In a remarkable effort to restore hope and dignity, Hope Restoration and Health Initiative Inc.has reunited a long-term homeless patient with her family after years of separation.

The Founder/CEO of the NGO, by Dr. Timothy Olaolu Adebowale, disclosed this in a statement shared on his LinkedIn on Thursday .

Adebowale while Narrating the efforts  wrote “ on  August 7, 2024, a joint team of hospital social workers and Hope Restoration staff embarked on a mission to trace the home of a young female patient who had been hospitalised for seven months.

“Their journey took them to Sango Ota, near Lagos, approximately 60 kilometres from where the patient was initially found.

“The patient, who had been homeless and suffering from mental health issues, guided the team to her home.

“Upon arrival, the team was met by the patient’s mother, who had not seen her daughter for several years.

“ The patient, who had been ill for about a decade, had previously attended the Neuropsychiatric Hospital but defaulted on her clinic visits five years ago following her father’s death.

“She was subsequently taken to a religious healing home, from which she wandered away four years ago.

“Hope Restoration and Health Initiative found the patient on December 9, 2023, and presented her for inpatient care at a hospital in Abeokuta.

“Despite her initial reluctance to return to the hospital, the patient expressed a strong desire to stay at home with her mother.

“The mother, overjoyed at the reunion, was persuaded by the team to accompany them back to the hospital for a review.

“After being reviewed by her managing consultant, the patient was granted leave to return home with her mother.

“Both were provided with financial support and medications, with a follow-up appointment scheduled for the following week to ensure continued care and support.”
