In a striking accusation, General Abdourahamane Tiani, the Head of State of Niger Republic, has claimed that France is conspiring to destabilize the region by establishing terrorist operational centers in Nigeria, specifically in Gaba, a forested area within Sokoto State.
Speaking to reporters, Tiani alleged that the Nigerian government is not only aware of these activities but is also complicit in France’s purported mission to create instability in the region.
This escalates the ongoing tension between the Nigerien junta and France, previously criticized for its colonial legacy and interventions in West Africa.
Tiani asserted that French authorities have been using financial resources to persuade Nigerian officials to establish a military base in Borno State.

The acting Registrar, Islamiyat Abdulrahim, disclosed the details in a statement signed by the acting Director of Public Affairs, Habib Yakoob. In her congratulatory remarks, the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Maikudi, lauded the dedication and hard work of the promoted staff. She emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of excellence through timely recognition of merit and career advancement. “These promotions reflect the University of Abuja’s commitment to fostering excellence, recognising merit, and encouraging growth among its staff,” Maikudi said. “I congratulate all the promoted individuals and urge them to continue contributing to the University’s vision of academic and professional distinction.” She further assured that all outstanding promotion cases had been reviewed and resolved, while pending cases awaited external assessment reports. This, she noted, underscores the university’s dedication to fairness, transparency, and meritocracy. “Our intelligence has intercepted alarming information from captured terrorists,” Tiani stated.
“They have confirmed France’s intentions to cultivate a base under the guise of fighting terror, while their real aim is to destabilize our nation.”
These claims have sparked outrage among Niger’s leadership, which has vowed to protect its sovereignty amidst foreign interventions.
The dynamic between Niger and France is further complicated by historical grievances and increasing anti-French sentiment in the region.
